The $411 million Penlink’s construction is set for completion by 2025 – almost three years ahead of the start date in the Auckland plan unveiled last year.
The 7km transport route will link Whangaparaoa Peninsula with SH1 at Redvale, and include an express public transport service, was heavily promoted by the Auckland Business Chamber working with the local board.
Penlink will ease congestion in Silverdale’s business area, and where population is expected to grow by 100,000-plus over the next 30 years and 21,000 jobs will be created.
“It’s urgent action that North Shore’s business and residential communities wanted – they are having to put up with traffic queues stretching up to 10km most mornings,” said Auckland Business Chamber head, Michael Barnett.
Thousands of responses were made to the Chamber’s Penlink website and numerous enquires made by potential investors.
After sitting on Auckland plans consented, ‘ready to go’ but unfunded for decades, today’s project timeline sets tendering a design contract early in 2020, a construction start in 2021 and completion in late 2025.
“That’s hugely exciting and a reward for the community’s efforts.”
