SV Ratley Scholarship

Established in 2020, the Stanley Ratley Waste Minimisation Scholarship has been created to encourage the development of sustainable packaging and waste minimisation solutions for food products in New Zealand.

The aim of these solutions is to benefit existing business organisations and individuals throughout New Zealand in tackling the problem of increasing waste.

The three scholarships, totalling $60,000, are valued at $20,000 each with one awarded each year for three years.

Recipients will either be in business, entrepreneurship or tertiary education and will develop sustainable packaging and waste minimisation solutions that will address the increasing volume of waste in New Zealand.

Guidelines

Recipients will develop sustainable packaging and waste minimisation solutions that will address the increasing volume of waste in New Zealand.

The three $20,000 scholarships will be adjudicated on the following criteria:

  • $10,000 to be assigned to Innovation – research
  • $10,000 to be assigned to Implementation – development
    $20,000 per recipient

The innovation component will look at research and design to better understand how this solution will impact our circular economy, the sustainability of the product and manufacturing process.

Consideration should be given not only to environmentally friendly packaging but also the increased demand for accessibility and managed costs to remain competitive in both the local and global marketplace.
