Auckland Business Chamber says National’s plan to open trade talks with seven new markets is a good move for Auckland businesses.
“We’ve got members already trading into some of these countries, and plenty more who will go further if the settings are right,” says Auckland Business Chamber CEO Simon Bridges. “Switzerland, Brazil, the EFTA countries, there’s real money to be made there for New Zealand firms.”
Bridges says the Chamber’s ties with international business councils here in New Zealand as well as in a number of these markets mean local exporters won’t be starting cold.
“We’ve already got people here and on the ground and relationships built. So when the ink’s dry on any of these deals, our businesses aren’t waiting around, they can get moving straight away.
“Trade deals don’t sell anything themselves, businesses do. But the more markets our people can get into with lower barriers, the better it is for jobs and pay packets here in Auckland.”
