The Auckland Business Chamber welcomes today’s Budget announcement of a loan guarantee scheme to help businesses transition away from gas, and fully supports it.
CEO Simon Bridges says the initiative addresses a pressing issue for businesses across New Zealand.
“The reality is New Zealand is running out of gas. That, alongside wider energy challenges, has led to slow but steady deindustrialisation, SMEs shutting up shop, and real hardship for households and businesses alike,” says Mr Bridges.
“Energy is the number one issue for many businesses right now. This initiative will help in a meaningful way, giving more businesses the support they need to make the transition to alternative fuel sources and secure their future, both commercially and environmentally.
“This is a good move by the Government. New Zealand’s gas reserves are declining, an energy crunch is coming, and initiatives like this help businesses get ahead of it.”
