The Role of Offshore Wind in Future-Proofing Auckland’s Energy Security
Hear from hosts Taranaki Offshore Partnership, a joint venture from New Zealand Super Fund and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and a panel of key energy industry stakeholders on the role offshore wind could play in building Auckland’s energy resilience.
Wednesday 25 September, 7.30am – 9:00am
Join The Discussion: What’s the role of offshore wind in future-proofing Auckland’s energy security?
Offshore wind is the big opportunity for New Zealand to move the dial on developing new renewable energy at scale to meet existing demand and additional demand growth from the transition to electrification. By enabling large-scale renewable energy generation in the North Island that is not dependent on the Cook Strait HVDC cable, it would also contribute to making the electricity system more resilient.
Taranaki Offshore Partnership (TOP), a joint venture between the NZ Super Fund and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, is investigating the feasibility of a 1GW offshore wind farm in the South Taranaki Bight (and potentially other sites in the future). With proven experience in offshore wind development globally and access to capital, they are well-positioned to lead the development of offshore wind in New Zealand.
Hear from a panel including representatives from TOP and NZ Super Fund about the opportunities offshore wind presents, the benefits for Auckland and the economy as a whole, and what’s needed to make it happen.
