Wednesday 10th September

RBNZ Chief Economist Paul Conway will explain the reasons behind the latest Official Cash Rate decision and provide an overview of what is happening in the economy, including the outlook for activity, inflation, interest rates, as well as the global picture and the impact of tariffs.

We’re delighted to be joined by Paul Conway, Chief Economist at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, who will provide a timely and detailed update on the state of the economy. Paul will begin by walking us through the RBNZ’s latest Official Cash Rate decision, including the economic indicators, policy considerations, and broader context that informed the call.

He will then broaden the lens to examine where the economy is headed, covering inflation dynamics, interest rate trends, and the expected trajectory for economic growth. With increasing geopolitical uncertainty and the ongoing influence of tariffs on global trade, Paul will also explore how international developments are feeding into the local outlook.

This session offers a rare opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the Bank’s thinking and understand how current conditions are likely to affect businesses and consumers alike.
