Jaishankar in a conversation with the Chief Executive of the Auckland Business Chamber Simon Bridges as we seek insights and perspectives from a senior member of India’s Government. This will be the first visit to New Zealand by a Foreign Minister of India in more than 20 years and comes as New Zealand celebrates 70 years of diplomatic relations.
Dr Jaishankar is the Minister of External Affairs and a member of the Upper House of Parliament representing the state of Gujarat. Dr Jaishankar joined India’s diplomatic service in 1977, and went on to serve as India’s Ambassador to the United States, China and the Czech Republic, and as High Commissioner to Singapore, before being appointed as Secretary of External Affairs from 2015 to 2018. Dr Jaishankar worked in the private sector before being named Foreign Minister by Prime Minister Modi in May 2019.
